3D PROJECTION, HYDROPONICS AND CLASSROOMS – ON BUILDING THE FIRST INNOVATION SANDBOX!
Inspired by the ethos of the UAE’s Innovation Month, the keen minds at DP World conceptualised the Innovation Sandbox – a space where new, out of the box ideas could be nurtured and showcased, and new technologies explored. And when it comes to innovation and forward thinking, what could be a better place to begin than with the architecture itself? Cargotecture thus became the obvious choice.
So for most part of January, we were working on this incredible project. The result was a stunning three-storey structure comprising an array of fascinating spaces: classrooms, dining spaces and innovation areas, a 3D projection area, a clinic, a hydroponics unit, and a cutting edge space dedicated to the Year of Zayed!
Needless to say, this turned out to be a dream project for us at SmartBox! In under a month, we created three levels using nine recycled and refurbished shipping containers.
The UAE’s Innovation Month is an annual event started with the intent of creating a widespread culture of innovation in the nation, and to encourage the development of new ideas and capabilities. DP World’s Innovation Sandbox is an example of the enthusiastic response the concept has received from the private sector, ensuring that the ecosystem of pioneering technology thrives in the UAE.
Cargotecture is a sustainable, state-of-the-art construction technology that uses recycled shipping containers as the building blocks used to create new structures. Being modular, it can be used to create buildings that are safer and tougher than their brick-and-mortar counterparts.
